Your Take-Home Pay
Here's a role-playing game for you Ebenezer Scrooge types.
This system is a simulated process to manage a payroll
for a small business.
This system shows how the Google App Engine can support
routine business applications, and is intended mainly as a 'showcase'
and/or proof-of-concept for how to build business application programs.
At the present time, there are no plans to offer this service for use
at a real business ... but if you're interested, let's talk!
Note: this system is currently not connected to anything, so please
do not try to use it to manage a real payroll!
You are welcome, if you like, to use it to try calculating, or re-calculating,
any real payroll amounts, or make something up.
Warning: your connection through the Internet is not secure,
so if you send real data to this system, someone else could, possibly,
see it.
The system includes the current, correct, tax tables for
Federal income tax and FICA withholding, and for (only)
the State of California income tax withholding.
If you really have an interest in seeing the system calculate tax
withholding amounts for another state, contact me, at
GarrettDavisCPA@gmail.com,
and if I have time, I can probably load other state tax tables.
The payroll calculations in this application are intended solely for use
as a demonstration of the abilities of GAWSH framework, but
can be used to provide general guidance and estimates of payroll tax calculations.
They should not be relied upon to calculate exact taxes, payroll
or other financial data, and are not intended to provide tax or legal advice.
You should consult with an accountant or a professional financial advisor
if you have specific payroll concerns.
Your employer's payroll system may calculate taxes slightly differently:
small differences are acceptable to tax authorities.
Also, if you try to verify any of these calculations, be careful with
tax calculations involving a 401(k) contribution, such as
the simulated data for "Scarlett O'Hara" in this system.
Contributions to a 401(k) plan are subtracted from income
subject to federal withholding - lowering the income tax withholding -
but are not subtracted from income when calculating
FICA (Social Security) tax payments.
There are quite a few more functions that this system needs before it could
handle all of the payroll complexities that a real company might have,
such as: electronic deposits, electronic filing of employer tax returns, and
some special pay situations like taxable tip reporting and tax-exempt employees.
If you have any questions, problems, suggestions, etc.
